MUSIC MINSTRY

Washington First Methodist has a rich musical history.  Throughout the years, the church as been blessed with talented musicians and leaders committed to carrying on the tradition of excellent music.

Our music program is under the leadership of co-directors Belle Guin and Janet Pharr.  Belle and Janet are accomplished musicians.  Sunday services contain a blend of traditional and contemporary music.  Janet accompanies the choir on piano, and when Belle isn’t playing the organ, she directs the choir.  The 20+ member choir provides a blend of voices that lead the church through congregational singing, solos, and duets.  Two members of the choir are accomplished saxophone and clarinet players.

Other musical opportunities include a handbell choir under the direction of Miles Adams.  Our 10 ringers practice weekly and perform during Sunday services throughout the year.  Janet Pharr works with our preschoolers during the week and leader our PreK-5th grades during Sunday School in music experiences.  Children sing an play colored bells (PreK) and hand chimes (K-5th).  A small youth ensemble led by Belle and Janet meets periodically to work on individual or co-pieces with the adult choir.

Choir – a talented choir of 20+ adults is a vital part of worship each Sunday and at special times during the year.  The choir is accompanied by piano and organ.

A Christmas cantata is usually offered as well as special Easter/Lenten music.  The choir practices every Wednesday.

A handbell choir practices each Wednesday and rings as part of worship quarterly.

Youth and children practice musical selections and are incorporated into worship periodically.
